  2. Titus is the funniest man on TV. Where can he go from here? Where has he been?

A lot of fast fast dialog and characters verbally foiling with each other over nothing at all. Ebbing closer and closer to being a bit too smug and self aware to serve the narrative. It's a deal breaker for some and I am in that group. It's not that the show doesn't have it's moments, it does but they are drown out in a sea of Aaron Sorkin style blather that is anxiety inducing. If you're into that style, you might enjoy this show as it's just as fast as Gilmore Girls and, paired with stereotypical Jewish banter, it's really fast as lighting. Stylistically, it does seem like a femme version of Mad Men. In era only though. The sets and clothes are well done. The story though and the comedy, I have to say... the actual jokes she tells on stage were really poorly done. It's a herculean task though. Comedy from that era would have a hard time not feeling dated but the series's attempt to emulate it fails. Her story off stage is the main attraction anyway. There are a lot of convenient dodges like that she's a mother and that's barely in the equation. It would have been better if she didn't have any children. It would have made it a lot more believable. They kids are after thoughts and conveniently ignored with little to no consequences.Maybe they'll tackle that later. I honestly couldn't sit through the fast dialog and people trying to out clever one another. My wife is Jewish and thought the cliche's about Jewish life was pretty tedious. Full Review »
  4. It's early on a Friday night and you're alone at a cocktail party outside of Boston. After your second Gin and Tonic you bump into a friendIt's early on a Friday night and you're alone at a cocktail party outside of Boston. After your second Gin and Tonic you bump into a friend from high school who is up from DC and visiting his sister for the weekend so you have your third G & T and join a group of his people that look pretty chill in their relaxed Gap clothing and distressed 501s and cute-rimmed glasses. They start to talk politics, about "the party", about "the future", and the ideals that they will be carving out for "you", for "everyone". They drink craft beer and check their phones. They eat puff pasty and play with their Porsche cayenne key. They ask the host to put on some Bob Dylan because his music is so "right for right now". Time passes and your friend, the one from high school, the one with the sister, looks around as he straightens his invisaline and actually cares for one-billionth of a second to think where you might be and that's so nice and swell but you've already had five drinks at the dive bar around the corner with some much better people. There I liked the old series with Mellisa Joan Heart substantially better.
Netflix can pulp the series with pleasure again.
