Regardless of which version you purchase, Starlink: Battle For Atlas will provide one of the best console space shooters in years, and is now my favorite Star Fox game of all time.

As an open-world game, Starlink lacks of creation, which probably reminds you some former Ubisoft games. But still, it has great combat experience, and allows you to explore different planets with your starship. So if you are a fan of space theme, Starlink is obviously a good choice for you.

The story has enough to keep you engaged and the inclusion of Star Fox is inspired. I don’t think this is the game that will reboot the toys-to-life genre, but I believe that it has enough to live on as a standard IP. I, for one, would be delighted to play through more adventures in the Starlink universe.

Ultimately the toys-to-life aspect feels like it gets in the way of an otherwise competent and fun space shooter that’s packed to the brim with things to do. Flying ships feels great and the occasional difficulty spikes rarely take away from the excitement of tearing through the atmosphere onto a new planet’s surface. But not all platforms are created equally, with the Switch’s Star Fox content shining as a bright point.

Starlink is a game I expected to groan and roll my eyes at. Instead I found myself enjoying it on multiple levels. The StarFox content makes it a must-own on Switch though. It feels like a chapter in his journey. Nintendo has done well to partner with Ubisoft on their projects, and it is paying off. While the toys are unnecessary this game is heaps better than it has any right to be.

While Starlink may be a bit expensive for some, there's a tremendously fun game hiding beneath the toys-to-life options. The core combat loop stays satisfying throughout the journey. It's a great first entry in a new IP and I'm excited to see what else Ubisoft does to expand on the universe and gameplay.

Before you know it, Starlink turns playing with toys into something that feels an awful lot like work.

Starlink on Switch is fantastic, fun, addictive, kept me up all night and love love love where it has gone. Stop whining over the toys. They are fun and innovative and...you dont need them to beat the game! Just level up bigtime, as you do in most RPG games, and you will defeat everything!

If you want Zelda in Space meets Starfox, this game is for you!

A must buy for ever Switch owner.

The visuals take a hit on the Switch but it doesn't matter when the gameplay is so much fun and fast paced. I got the Digital Deluxe for 50% off during the christmas sale and it's a much better time having access to all weapons and ships and it also leads to a more varied and tactical co-op experience, the toys are nonsense and is what put me off getting this game at the beginning but I'm just glad they have an almost all in one digital version without spending a silly amount on all the toys and that 50% off was a no brainer.

If you're a fan of Star Fox, get this game and enjoy the fanboyism of this amazing series, or if you're not a fan of Star Fox, grab this game instead on the PS4 and enjoy a better resolution and textures and you'll have a surprisingly good time exploring the planets, searching for loot and mods and gearing up your ships with mods which buff weapons and ship capabilities.

It feels more like Ubisoft is trying to make an appeal to make a full-blooded Star Fox game, and they hit pretty damn on the mark.

The physical collectibles are astonishingly well done, and outside of the pilot figures have very good profiles that would make for very good displays even when your playing days are largely done.

While a novel idea, it DOES get quite repetitive over time. There aren't that many different things to do, and not that many different types of opponents to square off against. This is the sort of game that is probably best played in short bursts rather than hours long marathons.

On top of that, while the actual game story isn't BAD... it's not exactly GREAT either. There was potential there, but it very clearly took a far back seat to the gameplay, which if you're someone who values narrative IS a detriment.

All said and done, it's a good title. Could be better, and if toys-to-life still had some life, I'd say that it'd deserve a sequel (compatible with the first set of toys, of course). But this is overwhelmingly likely to be the only iteration... and fortunately it stands on its own more than well enough.
