Elastic Days is Mascis at his most playful and fun, further adding to one of the most accomplished back catalogues in the history of indie rock.
  2. Nov 9, 2018
Elastic Days is another example of the strength and confidence he's gained from turning down the volume.

The last couple of Dinosaur Jr. records in particular have been praised from all angles for their consistency, but J Mascis is continuing to fire out hidden gems under his own name, too.

It’s a plaintive, poetic, and endlessly endearing return, a sign that the acoustic well, while previously untapped, remains brimming with inspiration.

Even at 52, this Dinosaur senior is a miracle of ongoing evolution. [Dec 2018, p.88]

No frontiers are breached, but Mascis's cracked vocals and melancholic melodic turns only get more affecting with age. [Dec 2018, p.28]

This will probably be labeled a folk-rock record, but at its core Elastic Days rocks.

Elastic Days will for many be a welcome catch up with Mascis, and for those not yet acquainted, it is the perfect place to say hi.

On Elastic Days, he’s somehow as accessible but elusive as ever.

If you’re a Dinosaur Jr fan and you can live without a couple of Lou Barlow tracks per album then it would be well worth checking out Elastic Days and hearing J do what he does best in a slightly different setting.
  11. Nov 9, 2018
It contains every element of Dinosaur Jr.'s appeal, from the soaring hooks to the blistering guitar solos--though Mascis has cleaned his tone up, or at least turned the master volume down from a 10--and inward.

Like Zuma, Elastic Days takes a little time to warm up to, but once it’s sunk in, it’s as comfortable as an old pair of jeans.
  13. Nov 8, 2018
The balancing between folk and rock is still present; the songwriting is straightforward, yet endearing. Even though this is not a revolutionary work, it shows that this guy is a great, skilled songwriter and Elastic Days displays all the wisdom he has gathered through the years.

Much of it's lovely, from the relaxed, melodic strumalong title track to ... well, the relaxed strumalong of just about everything else. It's the kind of album that makes you think there's nothing wrong with the world. [Dec 2018, p.84]

He can take his more laid-back approach too far, however, sounding as if he might be about to nod off during Web So Dense, Yet the moments of genuine loveliness more than compensate for the occasional bouts of narcolepsy. [Dec 2018, p.111]
